Article Abstract:

The increasing demand from government and consumers for sustainable corporate behavior merits much attention and ICAEW have published a report on sustainable development with a view to helping firms achieve this goal. An analysis is presented of how accountants can support mechanisms that enhance sustainability and thus help their clients to align business behavior with a larger sustainability agenda.

The Auditing Practices Board has to reconsider its new ethics standards on auditor's independence and take medium-sized companies also into account. The medium-sized companies, which provide 10% of UK private sector employment and nearly 15% of turnover, are the most unrecognized powerhouses of the economy.
