Going global
Article Abstract:
The Direct Marketing Association's World District Trade Council is a 60 member organization that provides aid and information to companies considering internationalization. Although going global certainly expands a company's market base, considerable research and testing must be done before final global steps are taken. Mailing lists, direct mail advertising, technological capabilities and product and service demands are very different from country to country, and therefore deserve serious consideration. Population statistics, market data and lists available for purchase or use are provided for the countries of Japan, South Africa, Australia and the northern European nations, as a group, which includes Great Britain, France, West Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland.

International connection
Article Abstract:
Telemarketing is growing in many areas of the world, particularly in Asia, Austral-Asia, and Africa where fast, cost-effective sales communication is needed. In Europe, numerous Telemarketing Service Bureaus (TSB) can be found, and more of these are automated than their U.S. counterparts. It is not difficult for American businesses to develop a foreign presence without high costs: making use of call forwarding capabilities to the U.S. through companies such as Service 800 (Nyon, Switzerland) or the AT & T International 800 services. Some companies have achieved very positive results by targeting a country with direct mail ads featuring a toll-free number. The years 1986 and 1987 should see a large increase in these selling methods.

Synergistic telemarketing
Article Abstract:
Telemarketing depends on using the telephone in a professional manner with the intention of closing more sales. To properly enhance traditional marketing techniques, the telemarketing department should be staffed with people who are aware of the marketing plan, are goal oriented and are kept well informed of the business. Managing the information used to plan a telemarketing campaign is the key to the successful operation of a telemarketing effort.
