Great reputations: a PR disaster could cost your corporation dearly
Article Abstract:
Protecting the reputation of a company has become a major business issue given the increasing influence of mass media over investors and consumers. Media coverage of attacks from human rights or environmental non-governmental organizations can endanger the survival of a company and may even cause its collapse. A recent report from the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce emphasizes the significance of reputation management in ensuring the success of the company of the 21st century. It cites a number of external variables determining a business organization's license to operate, including industry reputation, public opinion, the media and pressure groups. The PR campaigns of highly criticized companies such as Shell, Nestle and Unilever are discussed.
