Hedge your bets
Article Abstract:
Investors run currency risks when they buy foreign stocks, as well as the risk the the markets may underperform. Currency hedging strategies can help protect the value of foreign investments, for example UK funds specialising in Japan when the Japanese yen is dropping in relation to pound sterling. Managers of investment and unit trusts may view hedging with caution because it is expensive and may involve risks. Hedging tends to be used for defensive purposes and only tends to be used for some of a trust's funds.

Article Abstract:
Edinburgh US Tracker is an investment trust which has David McCraw as its lead fund manager. The trust is geared to North America and includes Microsoft Corp among its top 10 holdings. This is the only investment trust in the United Kingdom that tracks the S and P Composite Index, which it fully replicates, so changes to the constituents of the index will affect the trust's portfolio. This trust is an index tracker, and one of the few to be found among UK investment trusts.
