Issues concerning the economic difference between hostile and friendly takeovers, focusing on the conclusion that such takeovers are generally similar to each other in terms of economic strategy although hostile takeovers may be marked by more publicity. Topics include characteristics of hostile takeovers such as resistance by management, the relationship to hostility and stock returns, and the subjective meaning of 'hostile.'
