House passes defense authorization bill for fiscal 2005
Article Abstract:
The US house passed the defense authorization bill providing $422.2 billion for procurement and other defense programs during the year ending Sept. 30, 2005, which also included another $25 billion for operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. It also reported that the final legislation to be produced by the conference committee included funding for another amphibious dock ship.

Some retired military officers and others want the Department of Defense (DoD) and Congress to close the Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) program that is being developed to protect North America and other allied nations from the attacks of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs).
