IBM, Apple deflect Windows 95 blitz, aim for businesses
Article Abstract:
IBM Corp. and Apple Computer Inc. have conceded defeat in the desktop market to industry leader Microsoft Corp. and have now concentrated their efforts on outperforming the giant software company in the computer industry's second biggest market, the business sector. However, industry analysts are not optimistic about the two firms' chances of beating the very well funded Microsoft Corp. Some say that the firm has a marketing budget of as much $1 billion for its Windows 95 product alone, while IBM and Apple only have an annual advertising budget of $500 million and $160 million, respectively.

Microsoft promotion basic, not punishable
Article Abstract:
Competitors accuse Microsoft Corp. of unfair competition for cross-promoting its online service with the Windows 95 operating system. The Justice Dept. may rule against Microsoft to dispel the notion that it had been too gentle with Microsoft in the past. However, Microsoft is doing what any competitive company should do. Therefore, the proper way to fight Microsoft is to develop rival products, with cross-promotions schemes if necessary, rather than resort to the strong arm of the Justice Dept.
