Index tracking funds
Article Abstract:
UK index tracking funds have increased in popularity as active fund managers with higher charges have not always performed well. Tracker funds vary in terms of performance. This may be because of charges, or due to the timing of investments. The way that stocks are selected will also affect a fund's performance. Trackers are not always large enough for indices to be fully replicated. The return is what most concerns investors and this should benefit from low charges due to lower running costs of tracker funds.

A lifetime guarantee
Article Abstract:
Ivory and Sime has developed a lifetime guarantee for investment trusts which is offered to investors aged under 80-years-old. The value of sums invested is guaranteed from the first year, even if the fund value has fallen. Investors' heirs are protected in the investor dies staright after a major stock market fall. The guarantee should not be the main factor in deciding whether to buy the product, but such guarantees may increasingly be offered by investment trust managers seeking to enter the mass market.
