Interest groups put to the test
Article Abstract:
Interest groups of chartered accountants held their founding conference on Nov 1992 with the aim of sharing ideas, opinions and knowledge for collective advancement. The groups represented at the Toronto conference were Investigative and Forensic Accounting, Family-owned Enterprises, Financial Managment, Business Advisory Sevices and Environmental Management, Accounting and Reporting. The groups had distinct one-day programs which consisted of presentations, workshops and a box-lunch business meeting. Most group leaders aim to convince new members of the interest group concept with the formation of the groups' basic frameworks.

Norman's conquest

Norm Francis, who combined his accounting and computer expertise to help start Basic Software Group (BSG), has now ventured into the pen computing field with his new company, PenMagic Software Inc. Francis entered the accounting field as a computer science graduate in 1971 and pioneered the use and development of accounting software. In 1992, Francis and partner Keith Wales are working on packaging pen computing applications for accountants.

The CAs of summer
Article Abstract:
The Toronto CA Softball League, established in 1925, is considered as the oldest chartered accountants (CA) softball league in Canada. Boasting of 30 teams and over 400 participants, the league continues to operate as a summer program for CAs who want to have fun. The softball teams are sponsored by CA firms and play weekly games for a 12 or 13 week season. Players must be CAs or be present or past employeees of a CA firm.
