Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Army Gen. George Casey and other Pentagon officials raised questions about the readiness of Iraqi security forces to operate successfully without American help. However, Rumsfeld and Casey are working to downplay that notion and Rumsfeld has produced a chart that purported to show levels of Iraqi security force readiness over the course of the year 2005.

Marine expert: Pentagon still unready for 'small wars'

Marine experts state that the Pentagon is not preparing adequately for small war that it most often has fought in the past and most likely will face in the future. Reason for this includes a failure to gather good social and cultural intelligence on the countries with which the United States has gone to war.
