Canada
Article Abstract:
Canada currently enjoys a strong economy, characterized by low inflation rate and improved international competitiveness. However, budget deficits both at the federal and provincial levels remain high. In winter 1994, Canada imposed an interest rate increase triggered by the tightening of US monetary policy. Despite sluggish growth in spring and ealy summer, the Toronto stock market posted significant gains in autumn 1994.

France
Article Abstract:
France's economic recovery was indicated by the 2.3% overall GDP growth from Jan.-Sept. 1994. The strong economy can be attributed to the significant growth in private consumption and housing investment. The country's export sector is expected to remain strong in 1995. However, the strong economy failed to prevent the downward slide of the Paris stock exchange in 1994.
