Key Versus PBX - Changes to Date
Article Abstract:
Private telecommunications equipment companies are competing head-on with the Bell companies for installation of products. One trend is toward integrated systems of voice and data. Hybrid Key Systems are new switching centers that have many of the features of PBX. In the past, telephone systems requiring more than fifty phones required a PBX to handle the routing of traffic. Now key systems can handle up to eighty units on one system. The only real difference betwen the two systems is the switchboard of PBX systems. Differences between the two system are narrowing. Criteria for selecting a PBX are given. A glossary of terms for managers is given.

Article Abstract:
An in-depth look at the private line, its costs and benefits, is outlined. Long-distance telephone calls to the same locale (and, alternatively, calls received from the same area) make it imperative that a company look into the benefits of such a line. A set fee for a month of unlimited use is paid. Consulting a major carrier may help determine the best combination of various systems. Several diagrams depict some of the alternatives in using a private line in combination with other modes.
