Article Abstract:
The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program was criticized by a key lawmaker, Sen. Jeff Sessions, for overshooting budget limits and the weight of the aircraft that may pose problems in the Marine Corps version of the JSF, the Short Take-Off and Landing (STOVL) variant, that is 2,300 pounds overweight while the Air Force and Navy versions are about 1,400 pounds overweight. The integration phase wherein designers attempt to integrate an array of systems into the aircraft remains another major concern.
