Kvaerner
Article Abstract:
Kvaerner is a Norwegian engineer and shipbuilder which depends on shipbuilding for most of its earnings. A drop in subsidies from governments to shipbuilders would benefit Kvaerner. The company may be affected by lower demand from holiday cruise operators, and this could lead Kvaerner to take on work offering lower margins. The company's mechanical engineering division is breaking even, which is an improvement, though performance here needs to improve further.

The company has six main divisions following its expansion and three of these are to be based in the UK. Kvaerner ranks first among European shipbuilders and its other activities include construction and gas and oil engineering. Meanwhile, the future of Cunard, a recent acquisition, has not yet been decided and it could be retained within the Kvaerner group.
