Latin America and Asia boost flat first half for Novartis

Novartis' animal health product sales for first-half 2001 fell 5% to Swiss Francs 490 million, but operating income remained steady at Swiss Francs 66 million. Losses in the US and the UK were offset by gains in Asia and Latin America. Novartis has expanded its position in Eastern Europe by acquiring the prescription animal health product line of Selbruha (Budapest, Hungary at end-August 2001.
