Lieberman sees fighter planes cut, not canceled; seeks more ships

Sen. Joseph Lieberman, a Senate Armed Services Committee member, said that the Navy's fighter aircraft programs might be cut, but not cancelled, and is seeking to increase the number of vessels in the fiscal year 2006 defense budget. He is worried about the future security of the United States as the Navy is buying very few ships in order to save money.

The Lockheed Martin Corp. and its team have submitted a proposal to the U.S. Navy to supply the next-generation Marine One presidential-transport helicopter. The US101 team has demonstrated a successful transport of its helicopter aboard a C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft.
