Lott says DD(X) victory is best possible for shipbuilders
Article Abstract:
Senator Trent Lott has stated that giving both General Dynamics Corporation unit Bath Iron Works shipbuilding in Maine and Northrop Grumman Corp. unit Ship Systems in Mississippi and Louisiana work of building the future DD(X) destroyer is the best solution that the shipbuilding industry could hope to achieve. The defense authorization bill has rejected a House-proposed $1.7 billion cap on the price of each DD(X) and has set a $2.3 billion cap on the fifth DD(X) to be built, with no mention of a cap on the first four ships.

Destroyer production gap could hurt industry
Article Abstract:
A one year gap in the construction of Navy destroyers in President Bush's federal budget and the lack of funding for the construction of Navy destroyers will be converted into a multiyear gap in the orders for the subcontractors, who are responsible for fitting the systems on the ship. The lack of work, idleness in shipyards and systems fabrication work has raised concern amongst the members of the American Shipbuilding Association.
