MacIBM: will marketing bonds grow as new product marriage matures?
Article Abstract:
Apple Computer Inc and IBM have agreed to share products, research technology and financing. The companies have formed the joint-venture firms of Kaleida and Taligent. Kaleida will develop and license multimedia computing products while Taligent will develop operating system software for next generation microcomputers that will enable hardwares to use softwares designed for other operating systems. The partnership will increase both IBM and Apple's stock values and market shares. Motorola Inc is also a part of the partnership in the joint development of microprocessors.

Renaissance man to lead Apple-IBM multimedia venture

Apple Computer Inc and International Business Machines Corp has appointed A. Nathaniel Goldhaber as pres and CEO of Kaleida, a joint venture between the two companies specializingin multimedia technology. Goldhaber's appointment was hailed by analysts, considering his familiarity with multimedia, extensive connections, financial management capability and entrepreneurial experience. Meanwhile, Apple has teamed with Toshiba Corp for the purpose of developing multimedia players to beshipped by 1993.

The third wheel: Motorola designs chips to power future IBM and Apple computers
Article Abstract:
An important component in the IBM and Apple Computer Inc partnership is the participation of Motorola Inc. Motorola will design the reduced instruction set computing chip that will power future generations of microcomputers of IBM and Apple. Although Motorola has supplied Apple with microprocessors since 1984, this will be the first time it will work for IBM. Motorola has already advertised its participation in the Apple-IBM deal.
