Millennium and Copthorne
Article Abstract:
Millennium and Copthorne has acquired CDL International's hotel interests in Asia-Pacific and this brings in 43 hotels. The company should benefit from a revival in the hotel trade in Asia-Pacific, and its hotels in Paris, France, and New York are performing well. Bookings in London, England, are strong for fall 1999, despite flatness for 1st half 1999. New Zealand is affected by overcapacity, though this does not account for a large proportion of the company's forecast net profit. There is also some overcapacity in regions in the UK, though this is starting to improve.

Ryan Hotels builds on recovery
Article Abstract:
Ryan Hotels is an Irish hotelier which reported a rise in pre-tax profit of 43% to 2.79 million Irish pounds for 1995 to 1996, when turnover rose by only 7% to 26.3 million pounds. The company reported a loss for 1992 to 1993, but has since recovered, helped by an increase in demand and cost cutting. The company aims to increase rooms in existing sites rather than acquire new hotels. The company's profit is forecast at 3.3 million Irish pounds for 1996 to 1997 by Goodbody.
