ARCUK's impartiality - its most valuable asset
Article Abstract:
The British government is reivewing the role of the Architect's Registration Council and is questioning the need for architects to be legally registered. Registration provides protection for the consumer and should be done by a body that is independent of the professional associations. The need for independent and statutory registration is evident from the demands of insurers and financial institutions for evidence of the architect's competence when insuring or providing mortgages on buildings. These institutions should be consulted before any changes are made to the present system.
