Navy team takes fire protection down to the wire
Article Abstract:
An office in the Naval Air Systems Command has come up with a cost-effective way to prevent electrical fires on thousands of aging military and commercial aircraft. The Aging Aircraft Integrated Production Team developed something called the arc-fault circuit breaker based on research done by the Federal Aviation Administration, where microcircuits in the smart breaker analyze a wire's current to detect and neutralize potentially incendiary arcs before a hazard develops.
