Physiological strain during kitchen work in relation to maximal and task-specific peak values
Article Abstract:
Many occupations are physically strenuous, while many occupations are stationery where only one side of the body is used, imposing static, dynamic and asymmetric loads. A study examined physical work load during upper-body occupational work, in a hospital kitchen, related to task-specific peak values. The findings show that relative work intensity is higher when expressed relative to corresponding muscle group's oxygen uptake peak rather than the oxygen uptake maximum. There were similar differences observed in the heart rate response.

Measurement of the speed accuracy operating characteristic for visual search
Article Abstract:
The fixed-time and the search to completion methodologies are equally good in the measurement of the speed accuracy operating characteristic (SAOC) for a visual search task. The measurement of SAOC by the two methodologies show only one significant difference in 15 comparisons. This significance is apparent at the smallest search field removal time. The search to completion methodology is useful in saving sample preparation time and subject time.

Posture, discomfort and performance in a VDT task
Article Abstract:
Workplace comfort has become a major concern for office workers and ergonomists. The effects of workplace design and work duration on discomfort, posture and performance were examined. The results suggested partial support for the hypothesized posture-comfort-performance interrelationships. Keyboard height affected working posture adopted.
