Plants rendered herbicide-susceptible by cauliflower mosiac virus-elicited suppression of a 35S promotor-regulated transgene
Article Abstract:
Genetically modified for herbicide tolerance crop plants were some of the first to be released into the environment. To drive expression of the herbicide tolerance transgene frequently the cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMv) 35 S promoter is used.

Fruit-specific RNAi-mediated suppression of DET1 enhances carotenoid and flavonoid content in tomatoes
Article Abstract:
An attempt to increase tomato fruit nutritional value by suppressing an endogenous photomorphogenesis regulatory gene, De-Etiolated 1 (DET1), using fruit-specific promoters combined with RNA interference (RNAi) technology is presented. The manipulation of a plant regulatory gene can simultaneously influence the production of several phytonutrients generated from independent biosynthetic pathways.
