Price and return models
Article Abstract:
Accounting researchers often prefer models of returns regressed on scaled earnings variables to models of stock price regressed on earnings per share. A framework is developed for comparing return models and price models. Analysis of the two paradigms indicates that price models have earnings less biased response coefficients, while return models have less serious econometric problems. It is suggested that combining the two models may be advisable in some cases.
