Products for the future ... but not for investors
Article Abstract:
The Design Council is to choose 2000 products which are 'creative and innovative' and permit the companies to bear the Millenium Product badge. This will be on a par with the Queen's Award for Export Achievement and the winning companies will be allowed to show their products in the Greenwich Millenium Dome and other exhibitions. Winners in the first round are to be announced in March 1998, with subsequent winners chosen every six months until the millenium. Contenders in the first round include Psion, with its Psion Series 5 and British Telecom with Touchpoint.

Mayflower poses menace to Dennis
Article Abstract:
Mayflower has made a bid for Dennis, offering 4.50 pounds per share compared with an offer from Henlys which was stock only, originally valued at 3.30 pounds, rising to 3.80 pounds after Henlys' stock price rose. Mayflower and Henlys are both major purchasers of bus chassis from Dennis and both would benefit from opportunities abroad, reduced lead times and integrated products if they acquired Dennis. Henlys lacks the financial firepower of Mayflower, though there is no certainty that Mayflower's bid will succeed.
