Article Abstract:
Official data on economic growth in South Africa could point to a future recession and a possible reduction in interest rates by the central bank, or Reserve Bank. Companies would like to see interest rates fall. They are also concerned about crime and its impact on companies considering investing in South Africa, and there is a need to attract foreign investors to boost fixed investment. There are many business start-ups and these are helped by the large informal sector, which is not covered by official data.
