Profit sharing and organizational change: attempts to promote employee commitment in the newly privatized water industry in England and Wales
Article Abstract:
Managers of the UK's 10 regional water authorities have had to focus on new organisational targets since privatisation took place in 1989. Organisational change has included the introduction of profit sharing schemes by several of the new water utilities. Recent research has focused on the ways in which managers felt profit sharing could play a role in prompting changes in how organisational purposes and activities are viewed. Profit sharing schemes have allowed employees to become directly involved in the companies' financial success in achieving profitability.
