Public offering of securities and other investment products in New Zealand - a legislative update
Article Abstract:
Recent amendments were made to New Zealand's Securities Act of 1978 which take effect on Oct 1, 1997. Included in the amendments is the expansion of the act's coverage to include unit trusts, life insurance companies and superannuation schemes. Another substantial amendment is that investors are now mandated to produce investment statement wherein information about the securities and the issuer are provided. The requirement was devised to protect non-expert people in purchasing securities and motivate them to exercise caution.

Regulators make a dog's dinner out of food and water
Article Abstract:
Concerns about the way that United Kingdom retailing is regulated may deter potential foreign buyers of UK companies. The Competition Commission is investigating supermarket pricing, and this leads to problems in valuing supermarket stock prices. meanwhile, regulation of UK water companies has tended to discourage consolidation, while encouraging foreign buyers. Consolidation is needed to cut costs, yet mergers are discouraged, except with smaller water utilities.
