Racal Electronics
Article Abstract:
Racal Electronics has seen a drop in its share price following poor results for 1995 to 1996. Radio Coomunications has invested in research and this has affected the division's profits. Data Products has carried out a restructuring which will affect results. Racal could benefit from investment in new projects, and appears to be tackling problems at Data Products. Profit growth may not be strong for 1996 to 1997, but Racal's longer term prospects should be helped by Data Products' recovery and greater demand for the BRT network.

Racal: the sum of its parts - and some
Article Abstract:
Racal has seen a drop in its share price int he year to May 1997 and has also issued two profit warnings in this period. The company has net debt of 353 million pounds sterling which means that investing in data networks is hampered. The company could prove attractive to a predator which would push up its share price. Racal aims to find a partner for its network services activities which would help value the business. The shares involve risk for investors but could be suitable for the brave.

Siemens in the slow lane
Article Abstract:
Siemens is shedding 6,000 jobs but critics argue that the company is taking too long to restructure compared with rivals like Ericsson. The company's share price fell in Nov 1996 after a pause in earnings growth was announced. The company is seeking to achieve a return on equity of 15% and managed 10% for 1995. German activities account for some 67% of total costs and a third of the company's revenue. Production is to be expanded outside Germany in locations such as Asia.
