Ross Lovegrove
Article Abstract:
Industrial designer Ross Lovegrove's newest seat design is a Bluebell chair. The chair is made of polypropylene and steel and is a tribute to another industrial designer's chair designed in 1958. The Bluebell chair is a gently flexing seat which explores the advantages and aesthetics of translucent plastic. The seat is available in several color combinations, with shells available in colors such as ivory or light gray, and seat backs available in pale yellow, pale blue or white.

Toshiyuki Kita
Article Abstract:
Japanese industrial designer Toshiyuki Kita has developed an insectlike sofa called the Song chair. The furniture has a stereo amplifier imbedded within its structure, two minispeakers hidden within the headrests and vibration devices imbedded into the armrests. The roughly $2,000 chair thus creates a state-of-the-art Zen environment, with the electronic gear reportedly providing relief from the stress of post-industrial living.

Chico Bicalho
Article Abstract:
Industrial designer Chico Bicalho has transformed discarded wind-up toy parts into an artistic contraption by attaching four spindly, wire 'legs' atop the wind up devices. One simply winds the mechanism and the contraption 'dances.' Called Critters, Bicalho's devices celebrate an obsolete mechanism of the Industrial Age and are sold for about $10 apiece at museum and design shops. Over 10,000 of the devices have been sold.
