Schoomaker: Budget squeeze would shrink the Army
Article Abstract:
The US Army chief of staff, Gen. Peter Schoomaker reported in April 2006 that the services could get smaller in size if the Army experiences budget pressure in the months and year ahead. Additionally he believes that two years of supplemental spending measures would be required to repair and replace the equipment that has come into heavy use during the prolonged length and pace of combat operations.

Profits of Raytheon Co., the fourth largest defense contractor, have increased after receiving numerous contracts from the Pentagon during 2003. However, persistent pension costs have resulted in a fall of the company's outlook for financial results in the year 2004.
