The slowdown observed in Brazil's economic recovery is discussed. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is unlikely to take firm measures because of impending presidential elections in October, 2006. Lula da Silva's economic policies are being criticized in view of 1.2% drop in industrial output during the third quarter of 2005. Political scandals are also responsible for decreasing popularity ratings of the president. High unemployment rates, interest rates, and declining wages in Brazil are other issues that are discussed.
