Small defense tech firm looks for big partnerships in 2005

Markland Technologies Inc., which takes advanced laboratory concepts and develops them into systems for homeland security and defense applications, is looking at partnerships with large defense contractors and acquisitions of smaller firms as tools for growth. The company stated that it conducted a successful technical evaluation of next-generation wide area coverage stand-off chemical detection technology and developed an integrated multi-technology system to identify and stop suicide bombers.

Small firm offers tiny chem warfare detector

Nanodetex Corp., which has its origins at the Sandia National Laboratories, has developed a fingernail-sized device that assists in detecting the presence of various types of chemical agents that could be used in terrorist attacks. The technology used in the device, which is called chemical microsystem offers speed in detecting and analyzing the chemical agent and is available at a reasonable cost.

Firms get $102M in body armor orders

Ceradyne, Inc., and Armor Holdings Inc., announced separate orders for a total of $102.3 million in body armor. Ceradyne Inc. received two delivery orders of $28 million and $75.7 million respectively under the indefinite delivery/indefinite quality (ID/IQ), $461-million, maximum-value contract, which was announced by the company on August 20 2004.
