Article Abstract:
Endesa is to acquire up to 75% of Fecsa and Sevillana, a move likely to hasten the privatization of Endesa which has a 67% stake held by the Spanish government. This move should also help liberalization of the Spanish electricity market. The main players in the market are Iberdrola and Endesa. There is uncertainty as to what will happen to Union Fenosa, an electricity producer with a large amount of debt.
