Data from the Bureau of Census indicate that electronic commerce sales for 4th qtr 1999 amounted to $5.3 billion. This is only 0.64% of the total retail sales for the same period, which reached $821.2 billion. Michael Worswick, CEO of Wolfe's Camera & Video, says it is still too early to tell if the Internet and electronic commerce would change the retail landscape. He admits that the Internet gives retailers more opportunities to find customers beyond the geographic boundaries of their physical locations.
