Still made in Taiwan?
Article Abstract:
The economic conditions, and consequently the prospects for foreign investments, in Taiwan remain upbeat. It has been one of the most successful economies in East Asia and looks to maintain its growth as a result of the liberalization of industries and the privatization of state-held enterprises. Foreign investors would be happy to know that Taiwan is focusing on the improvement of its infrastructure and its steady transition from dictatorship to democracy. Its relations with China are less strained than before due to the growing trade between the two, with the ban on direct trade links being lifted in 1991. The most attractive opportunities in Taiwan are in such fields as infrastructure, telecommunications, power and, most especially, retailing. Certain risks are threatening to upset the sunny conditions in Taiwan but its prospects remain as bright as ever.
