Stock aims to win markets abroad
Article Abstract:
Stock (Plzen, Czech Republic), spirits producer, should invest about CEK 300 mil during 2002-2004. In 2001 it will invest CEK 35 mil in its market spirits production plant to extend its rum production by 1 mil lt per year. Besides, the firm will invest CEK 100 mil in a new bottling centre. It will look for new markets abroad to sell its increased production, because the domestic market, where it has more than a 30% share, has been saturated with its products. The firm sold over 25 mil lt of spirits in 2000, up 1.2% from 1999. Its turnover excluding the consumer tax increased by 2.5% to CEK 1.5 bil in 2000 compared to 1999. Its gross profit decreased by nearly 12% during the same period, within high costs on marketing and the growth of fixed costs. Stock's main products are the herbal liqueurs Fernet Stock and Fernet Citrus. Their total sales volume increased to 17 mil lt in 2000 compared to 16.9 mil lt in 1999. The volume of the firm's Rum Bozkov increased by 3.78% to 3.8 mil lt during the same period. Stock has about 200 employees.

Reasons for the drop were a decrease in prices on the domestic market, costs on advertising and production promotion and the instalments of a credit for the purchase of the former herbal liqueur producer Johan Becher (Germany). JBKB's proceeds from liqueur, spirit and soft-drink sales decreased to CEK 1.013 bil in 2000 compared to CEK 1.024 bil in 1999.
