Article Abstract:
IBM United Kingdom Ltd. (IBM UK) is gearing for the local government market by developing its own software for the council tax. The IBM Revenue System being produced for the IBM AS/400, IBM ES/9000 and RISC System/6000 is a deviation from the standard practice of letting other software developers create applications for IBM systems. In a tie-up with the Capita Group, IBM UK has come up with a functional specification that closely matches the national specification. IBM UK emphasizes that this software package will have the ease of use and quality to meet the needs of revenue departments.

Redwood softens the line on local taxes
Article Abstract:
John Redwood serves in the Department of the Environment and concurrently as the new local government minister. Perceived to be a right-winger, Redwood's appointment was met with much apprehension from local authorities. However, he assures that there will be no major changes in local government functions and not much interference in local government taxation. Redwood has also committed himself to a structural review of local government.
