Tax, time and the triathlon
Article Abstract:
Chartered accountants Peter Corcoran and Bill Hallet regularly compete in triathlon events as outlets for their highly competitive natures. Corcoran, tax partner at Arthur Andersen and Co, and Hallet, tax compliance manager at Falconbridge Ltd, are currently preparing for the annual Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii. Both practice at least twice a day and work out together at least once a week. They combine the hectic pace with a working week of at least 50 hours for Corcoran and 40 hours for Hallet. Both believe time management is most important for the success of their efforts.

Article Abstract:
Chartered accountants (CA) in Canada share many similarities and differences in terms of demographics. A survey commissioned by 'CAmagazine' in 1999 shows that majority of accountants have a business degree which they use as a passport for obtaining a CA designation. They also tend to work in government, education or industry rather than in public practice. Another significant finding of the survey is that men earn higher than women, although the wage gap is being reduced as more women join the accounting profession.
