Telecom spending surging as battlefield is expanding

The deregulation of the telecommunications industry was expected to spark a major increase in business-to-business advertising among telecommunications companies. As of 1995, however, total spending of the top three long-distance telephone providers increased only by less than 2%. Many telecommunications carriers noted that they have become careful about advertising spending. Instead of focusing mainly on promoting their products, carriers are investing more funds to understanding customers needs.
