The funding gap
Article Abstract:
Scottish companies have been seeking to meet the venture capital needs of small Scottish companies. Scottish venture capital companies argue that funds should be channeled to smaller companies through the venture capital trusts launched in the Nov 1994 UK Budget. Larger companies already have good access to capital, they argue. Scottish Development Finance is a venture capital fund set up by Scottish Enterprise, and has been investing small amounts over the 13 years to 1995.

Alternative investment market
Article Abstract:
The UK Alternative Investment Market (AIM) was developed with the help of Scottish Enterprise and Sccottish Financial Enterprise. Inward investment has been important for the Scottish economy in the 1990s. Caution is characteristic of Scottish companies' expansion plans. Family companies tend not to want to cede control. Hi-tech companies are especially interested in AIM, but most private companies are concerned about the need for disclosure.
