Telecommunications and the Law: Detariffing Decision - Its Effect on Independent Telcos' CPE
Article Abstract:
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has established standards and a time table for detariffing embedded customer equipment. Most of this equipment is owned by the independent telephone companies. Individual state, public-utility commissions will have the right to detariff this equipment. The goal is to increase the competitive environment for such embedded equipment. Detariffing must be completed by the end of 1987. Norms for measuring the value of equipment were part of the announcement. The FCC also announced its intention to issue accounting and tax procedures for these transactions.
