The Communications Manager's Guide to Determining a Network Approach
Article Abstract:
The diversification of AT&T has led to a new trend in the communications industry: Proprietary voice and data communications networks. Rising costs are seen as the major reason for this trend. Purchasing of equipment is difficult and seemingly contradictory as competing products try to attract the manager's attention. Network planning is the only way to solve the problem of creating cost-effective systems. Planning requires careful analysis of needs and applications. Flexibility in the communications system is essential. The larger the system, the greater the number of variables that must be considered and monitored.

New Opportunities for Satellite Communications
Article Abstract:
With the increasing importance of time-sensitive television programming (such as music video and live coverage of national news and events), the resulting proliferation of program origination and receiving equipment has given satellite transmission the competitive edge for both television stations and syndicators. A line up of thirty stations is needed to gain the economic edge over the slow and hazardous way of mail distribution.
