Telecommuting: an idea whose time has come
Article Abstract:
Telecommuting, or remote working, is valuable to accounting firms because it solves overhead problems, boosts productivity, and makes people otherwise unavailable for employment employable, including mothers with small children, the disabled, retirees, and those individuals involved with higher education. The selection process for telecommuting candidates should take into consideration the suitability of the job to the person and the training and development of employees. Telecommuting gives many costs savings on traditional overheads but it increases costs of communication and demands on management. Management should consider the issues of organizational control, communications, and security when implementing a telecommuting scheme.
