Teledesic - the beginning of the space infrastructure of the future
Article Abstract:
FCC's authorization of Teledesic Corp to develop the Teledesic Network in Mar 1997 paves the way for space involvement in information. Teledesic Network will enable the company to provide telecommunications services through space. The hardware can also be expanded to accommodate future growth in demand, provided that a low-cost service provider structure can be developed. Arguments opposing Teledesic because of the space debris it can potentially generate fail to account for the future availability of services that can replace and upgrade satellites.

Satellite communications and the Internet: implications for the outer space treaty
Article Abstract:
The government may have difficulty complying with provisions of the Outer Space Treaty if private companies start using Internet-based Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS). It may not be capable of handling existing encryption methods that tend to obliterate the identity of GMPCS users. The changes in pathways controlled by packet-switched routers make it difficult to ascertain the network's boundaries at any given time.
