Article Abstract:
Interactive TV is important for companies competing to supply services, as well as for consumers. Internet set top boxes are to be made available to allow internet access through a phone line. Netchannel and Web TV are seeking to provide interactive servces in the United Kingdom through digital TV firms. 20 channels can be transmitted using digital terrestrial TV, including both free and subscription channels. The initial multiplex will be available to the BBC, with Channel 4 and ITV sharing a second, S4C and Channel 5 using a third, and British Digital Broadcasting awarded the remainder.

Canal Plus
Article Abstract:
Canal Plus saw a drop in the company's share price following announcement of results for 1994. The company is faced with a slowdown in rates of subscriptions in the domestic TV market, but has expanded abroad at too rapid a rate. Canal Plus has expanded into Poland, Germany and Chile which has involved high start-up costs, and the company is also faced with increased costs due to regulations on program content. Deprectaion charges on signal decoders have also risen.
