The effect of uncertainty and asset co-specialization on governance in biotechnology alliances
Article Abstract:
The transaction cost economics [TCE] and real option [RO] rationales for alliance governance is explored to find their predictive power depending on the type of uncertainty confronted. It concludes that consistent to TCE, co-specialized assets along with partner and task increased likelihood of hierarchical governance whereas consistent with RO technological uncertainty decreased the likelihood of hierarchical governance.
