Land attack from the sea
Article Abstract:
Sea-based platforms in the next century will be equipped with sensors and weapons that will extend the ships' reach hundreds of miles inland and up into space. Future surface combatants will allow the US Navy and Marine Corps to dominate events across littoral battlespace, which itself will be redefined from what now only covers the land/sea interface and a few miles inland. Future platforms will achieve what now can only be achieved by an aircraft fleet without the need to first suppress enemy air defenses and develop local air superiority.

Standardizing tug commands
Article Abstract:
There are 35 tug commands, six of which are basic and 29 of which are advanced. The first six basic tug commands can be used to accomplish the objective of a safe transit for the assisted vessel. These standardized commands are merely suggestions and not hard-and-fast rules. They are meant to reduce the possibilities of breakdowns between pilots and tug operators or captains. Pilots and escort/assist tug captains or operators should mutually agree to use commands both fully understand.
