Royal Air Cambodge (RAC), which originally was launched as a joint venture between Air France and the Cambodian government in 1956 and terminated operations due to political turmoil in 1975, was revived by the current Cambodian government in Dec 1994 to give the tourist industry a boost. RAC, which is a joint venture between Cambodian government and Malaysian Airline System and Malaysian Helicopter Service, offers six international flights to Asian countries and is planning on expanding its international service.

Malaysian Airline System (MAS) reported that profits were up by RM98.3 million to RM349.4 million for the year ending Mar 31, 1997, a 39.1% increase over the same period in 1996. Earnings per share increased by 31.5% in the same period. For the year ending Mar 31, 1997, MAS saw its passenger volume increase by 13.6% and its seating capacity increase by 14%; the passenger load factor was 69.6.
