The zero route to tax-free cash
Article Abstract:
Zero-dividend preference stocks are one stock class offered by split-capital investment trusts, and they have become popular. This sub-sector is worth 2.5 billion pounds sterling in the United Kingdom, and attracts private and institutional investors and fund managers. Zero have advantages as ways of generating income since the income is only given out when the trust is wound up, so zeros can be used by investors with capital gains allowances. Prices of zeros drop when the supply increases, and this means that bargains become available.

Value hard to find in an ever-changing world
Article Abstract:
Value may not be easy to locate for fund managers at a time when the world economy can show rapid change which affects the ability of conventional valuation methods to forecast trends. Major Japanese banks could collapse, China could devalue, and food riots could occur in Russia. Asia is the source of deflationary flows, though the Bank of England is concerned about a high growth in the money supply and the impact of policy errors. Deflation could still replace inflation in the UK, as has occurred in Japan.
